In 2016 while working at Elsewhere, a living museum and artist residency in North Carolina, Bailey developed virginya. The piece was performed at the UNCG Art Truck parked in the middle of a Christmas carnival on the busiest street in downtown Greensboro.
The installation of the truck consisted of personal items from Bailey's upbringing, tokens and trash found in their living space, as well as classically "feminine" articles of clothing they had recently been wearing. Two posters lined the sides of the truck installation with dangling sharpies. One sign read "THINGS THAT MAKE ME FEEL LIKE A WOMAN:" while the other read "THINGS THAT MAKE ME FEEL LIKE AN AMERICAN:". The audience was invited to contribute anything they liked to each poster before and after the performance.
The piece directly references Virginia Dare, "the first English child born in a New World overseas English possession" aka the first white binch born in America. virginya examines the identity of the white woman through video projections, dance, installation, and a spooky ass doll.
